Thomas has worked from within regulated financial institutions and in senior leadership roles. That creates an understanding of how decisions actually get made — economics, governance, regulation, technology, organisational realities and the competing priorities that determine what an institution can and cannot do.
Built around a different way of creating new business.
KT11 Venture is an independent advisory and venture-building boutique focused on new business creation across investment, wealth, capital markets and related financial infrastructure.
Based in Hungary, our primary focus is Central & Eastern Europe — informed by technologies, companies, business models and new approaches emerging across global markets.
A good opportunity should not depend on a single route to execution.
New-business opportunities inside established financial institutions often have to work within existing technology, processes, governance, capital allocation and organisational priorities.
Sometimes those are exactly the right foundations. Sometimes one of them becomes the reason an otherwise promising opportunity cannot move forward.
KT11 Venture was created to separate the question whether an opportunity is worth pursuing from the question how it has to be pursued.
If the evidence does not support the opportunity, stopping is the right answer. But if the opportunity remains compelling and the constraint is the route to execution, there may be another way forward — a different technology partner, operating model, commercial partnership, build structure or source of capital.
A blocked execution path is not necessarily a bad opportunity.
The objective is not to keep every idea alive. It is to understand what is worth pursuing — and remain open to changing the route rather than the opportunity.
This perspective is expressed through three distinct activities: Advise, Connect and Build.
Explore what we do →A perspective built across institutions, markets and ways of creating business.
KT11 Venture reflects the perspective Thomas Bümsen developed over three decades in financial services — first working inside established institutions and taking senior responsibility for existing businesses, and increasingly moving towards technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and the creation of new ones.
The value is not any single part of that experience. It is the combination.

His experience spans investment products, asset management, capital markets, funding, treasury and related institutional activities.
A background in both law and economics adds another layer: commercial, financial, legal and structural questions are rarely separate when a new business has to work in practice.
Working in different countries and institutional environments — particularly across DACH and Central & Eastern Europe — exposes different ways of organising markets, institutions and businesses.
What looks fixed in one context often turns out to be only one possible way of doing it.
Over time, the focus moved increasingly towards technology, corporate innovation, entrepreneurship and new-business development.
That means looking at an opportunity not only from the perspective of the incumbent organisation, but also from the perspective of what could be built differently.
The perspective is cumulative: institutional judgement, multidisciplinary thinking, international experience and hands-on creation reinforce each other.
Much of that perspective comes from having operated on different sides of the same problem — something a methodology alone does not provide.
Thomas Bümsen's work is organised through two distinct businesses.
KT11 Venture focuses on new-business creation, primarily across Hungary and Central & Eastern Europe.
Thomas Bümsen Capital Advisory is a separate activity focused on capital, funding and investment-related questions, primarily across DACH and Western Europe.
The two activities have distinct propositions and mandates.
Broad perspective. Defined field.
KT11 Venture does not try to cover every industry or every kind of corporate challenge.
Our focus is new business creation — new products and services, business models, market opportunities and, selectively, new ventures — within a defined part of financial services.

This focus matters. It allows commercial, institutional, technological, operational and structural questions to be considered together — without pretending that KT11 Venture needs to provide every capability in-house.
The building blocks are often available. The difference lies in the architecture.
New businesses rarely need everything to be invented from scratch.
Technology, specialist providers, distribution, operating capabilities, partnerships and capital can often be sourced in different ways. What matters is choosing the right components, combining them around the opportunity and avoiding dependencies that unnecessarily constrain what the business can become.
Start with what should exist, rather than assuming from the outset that it has to fit one predetermined implementation route.
Technology, operating model, partnerships, governance and capital can then be designed around what the opportunity actually requires.
Individual technologies, providers and partners matter. But the larger question is how capabilities, processes, partnerships and structures work together as a business.
Many organisations can access similar building blocks. The difference can lie in how they are selected and combined.
Where it creates value, build in the ability to change a technology provider, partner, process or structure without having to reconsider the entire business.
Modularity is not an objective in itself. It matters where it makes the business more adaptable and less dependent on individual components.
Optionality is not an excuse to keep a weak idea alive.
When the evidence no longer supports the opportunity, stopping remains a valid decision. When the opportunity remains compelling but one route does not work, it may be worth finding another.
Founder-led. AI-native. Network-enabled.
KT11 Venture is deliberately built around a lean operating model rather than a large permanent organisation.
Thomas remains directly involved in the questions, analysis, conversations and judgement that matter.
The model is built around experienced human judgement rather than layers between the question and the person working on it.
AI is integrated into research, analysis, challenge and development — expanding what a lean organisation can explore and produce.
It changes the production model. It does not replace judgement, accountability or human relationships.
KT11 Venture does not try to replicate every specialist capability internally.
When an opportunity requires additional expertise, technology or execution capabilities, relevant specialists, companies, partners and operators can be brought into the work around the opportunity.
People make it work.
Technology can provide capabilities. Capital can provide resources. Structures can create room to act.
But people recognise opportunities, challenge assumptions, make decisions, build trust, take responsibility and ultimately turn an architecture into a functioning business.
That belief also sits behind Smart People — bringing people with different backgrounds and perspectives together around questions worth discussing.
Discover Smart People →Small markets deserve more than scaled-down versions of large ones.
KT11 Venture is based in Hungary, with a primary focus on Central & Eastern Europe.
The region consists of relatively small and fragmented markets. Too often, they are approached either as delivery locations or as additional markets for products, technologies and business models designed somewhere else.
We think they deserve a more deliberate approach.
Local market structures, customer behaviour, regulation, distribution and institutional realities can matter. What works in a larger Western European market may not simply need to be made smaller — it may need to be put together differently.
At the same time, the economics are changing. Modular technology, specialist providers, AI and new ways of organising businesses increasingly make it possible to serve smaller markets with greater precision without recreating a full traditional infrastructure in each one.
The opportunity is not to replicate a larger market on a smaller scale. It is to build for the market that is actually there.
KT11 Venture combines its base in Hungary and perspective across CEE with relationships and market visibility beyond the region.
Different perspective. Specific opportunity?
If you are exploring a new-business opportunity across investment, wealth, capital markets or related financial infrastructure, a useful first conversation may simply be about what could be possible — and what would need to be true for it to be worth pursuing.
